Bird Description
Uncommon in Gulfstream waters. ID: Size and features fall between LESP and WISP, but appearance much closer to LESP. In comparison with LESP, less stretched out and angular, darker with less distinct carpal bar and narrower parallel-sided rump. Square or very slightly notched tail. May fly like LESP, but with shallower wingbeats and steadier flight, rocking from side to side with bowed wings (like COSH). Recently split into 4 species in Europe; 'Grant's' the most frequent in US.
