Bird Description
Occurs in singles and pairs, sometimes in small groups, evenly spread out on rocky coasts and islets. Prefers more exposed areas. Very little seasonal movement. ID: Medium-sized, dainty looking auk with slim proportions and fine bill. In summer, strikingly black with white wing patch obvious at any distance. 1-year-old males as adult but retain old brown coverts and flight feathers. Young birds and nonbr birds similar but juvs have dark spots in coverts.
