Bird Description
Rare, except in Canadian coastal areas. Often found with BOGU. Habits similar. ID: 2-yr gull. Larger European counterpart of BOGU. Similar but slightly larger, paler back, white neck, darker legs, broader head and fatter body. Bicolored bill can be a give-away but some very dull and dark and not obvious. Like LIGU, can disappear in BOGU flocks. In flight, focus on extensive dark wedge on underwing. Ad br: brown hood, smaller than BOGU. Pale eyelids. Bill often bright red. Ad nonbr: less isolated dark ear spot. 1st-w: orange-and-black bill, orange legs, more dark on primaries, brown carpal bar.
