Bird Description
Common breeder in coniferous and deciduous forest. Unlike some, it seems happy to spend its time singing and feeding from the end of branches. Often approachable. Clicky call note is similar to W Coast dark-throated warblers. Song a buzzy ‘I’m so a layazee’ with many variations but all same tone. ID: A stocky warbler with a big head but friendly expression. This wing-barred warbler is always yellow-faced contrasting with olive crown and back and has black streaking underneath. Has distinctive yellow wash across vent, easy to miss unless you are looking for it. Ad ♂ br: extensive black on underparts. Ad ♂ fall/ ad ♀/ imm ♂: paler breast streaking and paler around throat. Imm ♀: underparts tinged yellow with few streaks and palest ear coverts. 1st-s ♂: retains some old worn coverts.
