Scarce in W where woods meet fields. Range overlaps with more common and similar WEKI. Size and shape as WEKI, sometimes with rounder crown. Always look for darker head, throat, and upper breast, creating hooded effect with strong contrast with pale malar. Has paler-edged wing coverts, sometimes noticeable at long distances. Tail all-black with pale tip; WEKI has white outer tail feathers, which is diagnostic but not always easy to see.
