Bird Description

Common breeder in second-growth deciduous forest. Emphatic 'pleased 'pleased pleased to meetcha' a common welcoming song. Usually moves around mid-story and seems to have its tail perpetually cocked at 30 degrees. ID: A fairly large, chunky warbler with bulging chin that gives a thick-headed look. Broad-based pale bill. 2 distinct plumages. Ad ? br: yellow crown, black whisker stripe, chestnut flanks, black-and-gold upperparts create a very spiffy, unique look. Ad ? br: similar to ? with subdued pattern. Fall birds all similar and also attractive. Lime-green upperparts with wing bars that nicely compliment pale gray underparts. Bold white eyering stands out on such a clean background. Some fall adults show chestnut on flanks.
