CLGR

Bird Description

Same as WEGR for most features, but about 10 times scarcer. Often found together. Intermediates occur, and hybrids or individual variation arguably make some birds impossible to id. However, most can be separated. ID: CLGR has clean, deep yellow to orange-yellow bill (WEGR usually dull yellow with green element), and pale area around eye, differently shaped border to cap and narrower nape line. Also paler upperparts and flanks with smaller, more defined dark centers at rear. CLGR has a strongly contrasting appearance even at distance. In flight, white extends to outer primaries.
