Bird Description
Mostly summer visitor. Scarce but sometimes occurs in large flocks in wetter areas such as rice and flooded fields. Occasionally wanders out of range. Noisy whistling call often heard before seen, particularly early and late in the day. ID: Typical whistling-duck shape: fairly large and elongated with long legs, neck and bill but is fairly small-headed recalling NOPI. Overall impression uniform rich orange-buff, though darker-backed and has a white vent. In flight, black underwing stands out on an otherwise fairly uniform bird. Upperwing lacks white of BBWD. Ages and sexes similar.
