Bird Description
Uncommon breeder in damp evergreen forest or willow/alder thickets. Similar to VEER in size and shape. ID: The darkest Catharus with dull olive upperparts and even darker ‘gray cheeks.’ Boldly spotted breast. Face pattern recalls VEER, but breast pattern and upperpart color different. Flight call, often given on the ground, thin rising ‘where.’ Song shorter, scratchier than other species and seeming to run out at end slightly (downslurred!). Scarce NL race similar to BITH in size.
