Bird Description

Uncommon in s. TX in open wooded areas, palm trees, or gardens. Sometimes at feeders.Very rare as far n. as Canada. Early migrant spring and fall. ID: Fairly small with long rounded tail; flat-headed with a large bill. Ad ?: best told by black 'hood.' Black back and wings with large white median-covert bar. ?: similar to ? OROR but larger, bigger-billed, longer-tailed, and generally paler and dingier above. 1st-s ?: larger, more messy black bib than OROR. Call a 'wheet.' Song: choppy array of rattles and whistles.
