Le Conte's Sparrow
Ammodramus leconteii
LCSP
Order: Passeriformes | Family: Emberizidae (Buntings and New World Sparrows)

Bird Description
Uncommon in wet grassy meadows and marsh edges. Song: a single note followed by a forced-out 'tszzzzzz.' Hard to see, when flushed flies a short distance and then runs away. Small and lightly built with a fairly long spiky tail; this and orange face pattern can be seen in flight. Sitting bird has a bright orange-buff and crisply patterned appearance. Easily confused with NESP but latter lacks chestnut nape spots, pale crown stripe, strongly patterned back, and pale face with clean black eyeline.
