Bird Description

Rare stiff-tail from farther south. Most regular in TX and FL but also other Gulf states, sometimes in groups (invasive), and has bred. A real skulker in weedy, overgrown ponds. Female similar to nonbreeding female RUDU but slightly smaller with double cheek stripe. Nonbreeding male similar but with bolder face pattern and stronger colors. Breeding male distinctive. In flight, diagnostic white wing patches.
