Bird Description

A common bird in suburbs, villages, and areas with scattered trees bordering overgrown fields. In W, also found in riparian woodlands. Occurs out of range. Sometimes sneaks into gardens feeding low among flowers and fruiting trees. One of the first migrants in both spring and fall (Jul). Chattering call gives away presence. Pleasing song: a warbled array of sweet musical notes. ID: Distinctively small and slender. Narrow-tailed with a small head that appears pointed. Head sometimes seems rounded and bird has a gentle expression. Small-billed compared to other orioles. Ad ?: unmistakable chestnut and black. Ad ?: yellow and green tones always lack orange of BAOR. Back gray-green, duller than head. Wing bars always narrow and well-defined. 1st-w: as ad ?. 1st-s ?: black throat. Sings a lot and therefore frequently seen.
