Bird Description

Breeds on wet tundra. Locally uncommon. Rare but regular, mostly in SNGO flocks (1:1000). ID: Much smaller with proportionally shorter legs and neck than SNGO. Cute look with round head, stubby short triangular bill has straighter border with face. Gray area (wart) at base of pink bill. Sexes similar. Juv as adult except for brown-gray tertials and secondary coverts (often wear white by late winter), duller bare parts and gray wash to crown and rear neck. Often difficult to age by late winter. Blue morph is extremely rare; more contrasting than blue-morph SNGO with white face and belly and almost black darker parts.
