Bird Description

A regular visitor from the W. A few ad ? in late summer but most in late fall and winter to the s., and a few further n. ID: Appears larger than RTHU, chunkier with pot belly, thick neck, and big head. Bright green back and orange flanks usually draw attention. Obvious rufous at base of tail in flight. The most likely Selasphorus but compare with others. Ad ?: iridescent red throat, extensive rufous on breast and upperparts. Ad ?: green-spotted throat densest in center. Imm ?: evenly spread green spots on throat, some iridescent in winter. Imm ?: a few green spots on throat.
