SEWR

Bird Description

Fairly common in MW, rare in E in overgrown grassy fields, particularly wetter areas with sedge and meadow grasses. Very hard to see . Unusually, some birds move s. late in summer to breed again. Wintering birds found in coastal marshes, often with bushes. ID: Formerly conspecific with MAWR (it was known as Short-billed Marsh Wren) its appearance is noticeably different. Slightly smaller and slimmer, its orange flanks stand out. Upperparts are strongly patterned with heavily barred wings and finely streaked back but lack strong capped effect of MAWR
