Bird Description

Scarce but increasing resident in s. TX. Fall vagrant as far n. as Canada. Sits on treetops and telegraph wires to flycatch for insects. Will eat fruit. Almost identical to COKI. Call high-pitched twittered trill, never a single note. Large ‘yellow’ kingbird with green back contrasting with gray head. Focus on long black bill, but also long black tail that usually appears notched. WEKI is smaller with stubbier bill, grayer upperparts, and white outer tail feathers on shorter, square-ended tail.
