Western Wood-Pewee
Contopus sordidulus
WEWP
Order: Passeriformes | Family: Tyrannidae (Tyrant Flycatchers)

Bird Description
Barely enters w. part of area. Rare migrant on Gulf Coast. True status in E unknown due to almost identical appearance to EAWP. Probably only safely identified by song: ‘bree’ or ‘bree-yurr.’ Calls very similar to EAWP. Averages darker, expansive brown across breast and less orange on lower mandible. Wing bars, and particularly greater coverts, narrower than EAWP. These features are all subtle at best.
