Bird Description
Very rare European visitor. ID: 4-yr gull. Formerly ssp of HEGU. Compared to this species older birds show slightly darker mantle, yellow legs, extensive black wing-tips, dark red orbital ring, and pale head (usually restricted to a few streaks around eye in winter). 1st-yr: intermediate in appearance between LBBG and GBBG. Hybrid HEGU x LBBG regular and very similar. Azorean race (not shown), has probably occurred. Dark hood in winter and darker back (older birds).
